I visited last weekend in a unique place, made a photo, see: Meteora (Greek Μετέωρα) - one of the largest monasteries in Greece, famous primarily for its unique location on the tops of rocks . Monastic center was formed around the X century and since then there continuously. In 1988, the monasteries were included in the list of World Heritage sites. In the administrative division of the church is in Metropolitan stag and Meteor (Greek Σταγών και Μετεώρων) Orthodox tserkvi.Shest existing Orthodox monasteries located on the tops of magnificent cliffs, located on a flat surface of the Thessalian plain. Cliffs reach a height of 600 meters above sea level and are a rare geological phenomenon. They formed more than 60 million years ago and were stony bottom of a prehistoric sea, located on the ground plain. As a result of water, wind and temperature differences have turned out massive, as it hung in the air, stone pillars, called Meteora (from the Greek. Μετέωρα - «floating in the air").

SAH, thanks for reminding me about this amazing place. There nature created as a visible metaphor of monasticism. How you managed to visit 3 monasteries? I was the only one on the tour, knew well that they are allowed to queue - every day is open to visitors only one monastery.
Dear Admin! Maybe open a special section - "Travels, monuments, overseas miracles ..."? |
