Exhibition "Artist's Book" opens at the Museum of Modern Art

MOSCOW, February 15 - RIA Novosti. Exhibition "Artist's Book," The study of Russo-French cultural relations, has opened in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art on Gogol Boulevard on Monday, RIA Novosti reported the press service of the museum.

"Artist's Book" ( "Livre d'artiste") - a special genre in the history of art of the twentieth century. Its creation had been involved in the master of the highest level: for example, Picasso, Dali and Chagall. Refers to the book entirely by one man, who does not simply illustrate the text, but chose the font and paper determines the format, layout of text on the page.

The official told the agency in the exposition, in particular, includes the works of Yuri Kuper, Ivan Puni, Marc Chagall, Edward Steinberg, Ossip Zadkine, who worked on the works of Guillaume Apollinaire, Louis Aragon, Joseph Brodsky, Geo Charles, Jean Cocteau, Pierre Lekyura, Andre Malraux, Boris Pasternak, Georges Pompidou and other authors.

The uniqueness of this exhibition lies in the fact that the "Artist's Book" in Russia is concentrated in private collections in museum collections in Russia are stored only a few instances, therefore, to see examples of this art form is very difficult.

In addition, many Russian writers, engaged in "book artist" did so in Europe, mainly in France. Among them are artists of the first third of XX century (Chagall, Goncharova, Alexeev), and the master post-perestroika era (Bruskin, Cooper, Steinberg).

Prior to this project MMSI show the exhibition "New Word", which was the history of creating a "book artist" in a modern fashion - illustration "Lay" by the artist Victor Hoppe.

Soon the museum plans to present two exhibitions: "Livre d'artiste Picasso" and "Ambroise Vollar - the great publisher of great works."
