Karl Schmidt-Rottluff (1884-1976)
 

Karl Schmidt was born in a suburb Schemnitz, called Rottluff. Since 1905, he added the title of the suburbs to his name.
In 1905, deciding to study architecture, he moved to Dresden and went to the Technical Academy at the department of architecture. In the same year, he and his fellow students Kirchner Hekel (with whom he had been friends ever since elementary school) and Blyayl founded the artistic group "Most" (see story on Kirchner). That he found the band's name (a quote from "Thus Spake Zarathustra, Nietzsche:" The greatness of man lies in the fact that he is a bridge, not an end ").

Recently, in Berlin. Visited Villa Grisebach, there was a small "team" exhibition including prints and watercolors were Rotluffa. Etchings were very recognizable.
