"Writing from life, figuratively," what we see "- is not easy. For example, the human figure has on now in the process of establishing a permanent, although it is difficult definable impact. Izobraemye forms are endowed with psychological content. This content can enrich the work, but can also interfere, causing unwanted reminiscences ....

One of the most significant artists of the Western United States, Richard Dibenkorn, was born in 1922 in Portland, Ore., but soon his family moved to San Francisco.
When admitted to Stanford University, he studied with Victor Artantoffa, who taught him krassicheskomu drawing, and Daniel Mendelovittsa, who opened for him works of Edward Hopper - The impact of this great artist is clearly traced in the earlier works Dibenkorna.
In the 1940's - early 1950's he worked in various places: New York, Woodstock, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Berkeley, California. At this time in his works, he was inspired by the late synthetic cubism that dominated the American art medium until abstract expressionism. But then he met with abstract landscapes of Willem de Kooning, under whose influence he developed his own style: in this era are his abstract landscapes of New Mexico (1949-50). At the same time he is interested in works of Rothko and Motherwell, as well as the Paris School.

In 1955 he returned to figurative painting and became one of the most prominent participants in the movement, which is commonly called "figuration San Francisco Bay, in his work intentionally prosaic, expressed, in particular, the typical American subjects, combined with the search net zhiyvopisnosti, which he discovered in abstraction.
Since 1956, he became virtually the only Californian artist, who regularly organized exhibitions in New York.

From 1956 to 1967. in his work poyavlyayuts traces of his acquaintance with French painting (from Manet to Matisse), with whom he met in the Phillips Collection. In 1964-65 he settled Europe and, in particular, the USSR, where he went to examine the work of Matisse, stored in Soviet museums.

Look at the job, which is called the Window = Window (which I like very much), directly Bonnard made in US, eh? :)

In 1967, a new period - at this time he begins a great series of works titled "Ocean Park" (he kept it for 25 years). One can say that he returned to abstraction, but an abstraction that was now completely personal. Works in this series are made by air photography. They are characterized by a vertical format and size, they are organized geometric segments, filled with gentle, refined tones - something like architectural landscape. These works are like a bridge leading from the early abstract art to Color Field Painting, and Lyrical Abstraction.

List of works sold (prices, as you will see, quite impressive): http://www.findartinfo.com/search/li...ard_Diebenkorn

Dates of establishment, the names and sizes of work, when I was able to find them, are given in the name of the image. Some measurements are in feet, too lazy to count, you need to multiply them 2,5.

No, it's still not quite the answer, as Warhol. So the question is still open - XX century, whose works on paper are worth more than half-million ?:)

It seems to me, too, that Warhol .:)
It is necessary that the artist's works on paper sold several times, and it would have been well-established price level, as pastels by Degas, eg.
