The ups and downs Duchamp's urinal, or the plight of one artist

In one of the neighboring plots were talking about vandalism, the subject of which was the famous "Fountain" by Marcel Duchamp.

But all this business of "Fountain" Duchamp's a little harder.
Will be making some clarifications.
The fact that a man that has split it, not just an ordinary citizen of France, he is also the creator!

So here is a record of Mr. Pierre Pinonselli (or Pinonchelli - I do not know whether he pronounces his name in the French style or itelyansky):

We are not dealing with a boy, but her husband - Mr. Pinonselli was born in 1929, he - Specialist happenings:
  • In 1969, he sprayed a pistol in red ink, the then French minister of culture Andre Malraux on the occasion of the inauguration of Chagall museum in Nice;
  • In the same year, held in Bordeaux happenings against the grain, which publicly burned 1 piece of French baguette, with the chorus: "Down with the bread!";
  • In 1975, he made a symbolic attack on a bank in Nice in order to protest the decision of the city fraternize with Cape Town (where I was a policy of aparteyda);
  • In iyunne 2002, he cut off his phalanx of little finger with an ax in honor of Ingrid Bettencourt, who was taken hostage in Bolivia.

Now the facts:. Mr. Pinonselli not just picked up, and split Duchamp's masterpiece, does not, he carefully prepared his creative gesture that has become, if you let me put it this way, the culmination of his life:

On August 25, 1993 in the cultural center of him, he wrote in the famous "Fountain" by Marcel Duchamp, and only then hit him with a hammer. For such impudent treatment of works of art he was sentenced to 1 month imprisonment sentence and a fine of 286,000 francs (about 44,000 euros). At trial, he stated that he thought it necessary to "complete" the work of Duchamp: someone was always pee in the urinal, which is already more than 80 years standing in a museum and waiting - for a call to the urine contained in the concept of this product. /.../"People should use a Rembrandt as an ironing board" (I confess that this part of protecting speech, Mr. Pinonchelli I was not completely clear - that if he called some of Van Eyck or there Rublev, I would have understood -- both are written on the tree).

Presumably, Mr. A said happenings Pinonselli considered one of the most successful of his works, because in 2006 he repeated his action in Paris, on the Dada exhibition at the Pompidou Center. He again knocked on the hapless "Fountain" with a hammer, and then another and signed: "Dadaists".
It has turned very interesting case: there was a question on the assessment of the damaged works. Should it be rated for 83 euros, as proposed by the prokurop after consultation of a specialized directory home plumbing, or 2.8 million euros, as required to the National Museum of Modern Art (Pompidou Center), referring to the recent sale of the many versions of this ill-fated masterpiece?
In the end, Pierre Pinonselli sentenced to pay 214,000 euros to the Center Pompidou redress and 3 rd months of imprisonment on probation.

Mr. Pinonselli appealed this decision to the Court of Appeal, where the suspended sentence was confirmed. However, instead of 214,000 euro, the court made the decision to demand payment of the museum by 14,352 euros to repair the "Fountain".
Nuance: urinal, which struck with a hammer our fan happenings is not an original work of Duchamp. Alas, the original "Fountain" no longer exists, he was lost in 1917, the

Dear LCR once again admire your erudition! Allow me to publicly express my thanks to you! Do you really invaluable member of this forum. I hope you will forgive me for my ignorance. Perhaps I was a little carried away. Perhaps I just read this article. But it was a long time and therefore the details (well, that is very significant) erased from my memory. (How good that you'll always have everything on hand.) Your clarification of several changes the portrait drawn by me. But does not change the fact that I was trying to say and moreover makes it possible to tread a surprising new meanings. That much is true: "The devil hides in the details". Once again, sincere thanks to you and уважуха! : confused:: shy :;):)
