The manuscript's last novel of Vladimir Nabokov's "The Original of Laura" (in Russian translation - "Laura and her original") failed to sell at auction, reportedly at the house Christie's, putting a rarity in the auction.
Prior to the auction conducted by Christie's in New York on 4 November, the manuscript of "Laura" was planned to sell 400-600 thousand dollars, but the lot is not attracted interest from potential buyers.

The manuscript of the novel, representing the 138 index cards with text, put up for auction the writer's son Dmitri Nabokov. Vladimir Nabokov did not have time to complete the "Laura" and asked the heirs to destroy the manuscript. Nabokov's son for a long time could not decide the fate of his father's last novel, but in 2008 announced that "Laura" would still be published. 17 November 2009 "Laura" went on sale in the UK and the United States, the Russian translation of the book was released on November 30.

The most expensive lot of the auction conducted by Christie's on Nov. 4, was the letter of the first U.S. president George Washington. Consisting of a four-page letter to Washington's nephew, dated November 9, 1787, went under the hammer for 3 миллиона 218 thousand 500 dollars at Estimé in 1,5-2,5 million.

The manuscript of the first eight stanzas of the poem by Edgar Allan Poe "For Annie" (For Annie) was sold at Christie's auction for 830.5 thousand dollars at Estimé of 50-70 thousand.
