successful auction Christies

Вложений: 2
Canvas by Claude Monet was sold at Christies auction night in New York on Tuesday for nearly 42 million dollars (41.481 million), becoming the top lot of the auction "Impressionism and Modern Art"

Painting "Railroad Bridge at Argenteuil", written in 1873 in the early period of the artist's work, is considered one of the best in the works of Monet, but such a resounding result was not expected. It should be noted that this is a new record price for a great impressionist. And his "Water lilies", created in 1908, at the peak of the creative artist, "left" in the same evening for $ 12 million.

Second price auction lot was a bronze sculpture of Alberto Giacometti - "The Great was a woman, sold for 27.5 million dollars, which was a new price record for a sculpture. In 1960, Giacometti created a series of six bronze sculptures under one name. At the auction was put the figure "number two" in height more than two and a half meters. According to the plan Giacometti, sculpture had to decorate one of the areas in New York, but the plan has not been translated. It should be noted that the sculpture Giacometti enjoyed this evening was very popular. Thus, the composition of "Area II" went under the hammer for 14.6 million dollars, becoming the second resulted in the artist after the Great was a woman. "

Over 22.4 million dollars was sold to a third the price lot - "Portrait of a blue coat, Henri Matisse, which shows the artist's muse - a blue-eyed Russian emigre, a native of Tomsk Lydia Delektorskaya.
The portrait was in December 1935, when Matisse, previously immersed in a world of Eastern exoticism and black-eyed beauties, only began to learn his muse in the tall blonde with Asian cheekbones.

In general, the auction can be called successful. The total amount of sold works made 277,2 million dollars.

Basically I was struck by Giacometti for 27 million is no doubt that he is one of the leaders of the avant-garde in the sculpture, but that kind of money it is not worth it. Rather, it buys one person, as in the case of Rothko and Bacon.

Yeah, and maybe the same person. Oil something more expensive.

Frankly, had strong doubts that this bridge is one of the best works of Monet. There is interesting historical context (the atmosphere revival of the country and all that ...). But in any case, some lilies of interesting.
Oil is already 122 dollars so that the gentlemen from the East it is difficult to reproach, that they have nowhere to do with money.

Frankly I prefer the "Parliament" from Monet, water lilies are less interesting. but agrees with the Vladimir, oil prices are an excellent catalyst for the growth of the market. Vaughn even Leger sold for 39,2 million dollars. It is certainly a great avant-garde, but, IMHO, too much. Like tens of millions of Giacometti, while at least.
