I would like to introduce you to the illustrations from a rare edition, the book is written in the style of mystical fiction:
Stereo: Twilight story: [Fantastic Stories] Fig. Smirnova-Ivanova. 1918. By Alexander P. Ivanov (1876 - 1940) - the art scholar, writer, mathematician, historian of art, modern art department head of the Russian Museum., His brother - Eugene - was a friend of Alexander Blok. The terms of the interests of the family was closely linked with the "World of Art". Book is illustrated with the author's wife, the artist Yevgeny Smirnov Alekseevna-Ivanov (1875-1970), pupil of N. Roerich. Aunt artist Boris Smirnov-Rusetsky (1905-1993). Contents: Hero for the fun of becoming a low-cost optical device, and when the evening decided to look at him, then sees him as the Egyptian Hall of the Hermitage, and then gradually "falls" into the picture. It gets into the April 21, 1877, thirty years before the present, and travels through the frozen world of the Hermitage and St. Petersburg XIX century. All the people in this world, frozen in various poses, but one horrible old woman who seems the embodiment of evil spirit in the finals began to pursue the hero of the story, who miraculously returned back to his room. And then in fear of broken stereo, thereby suspending all contact with this wonderful deserted world of the past. |
rolls, very interesting, thank you. Interestingly, the figures of persons or non-existent, or they are very conventional, except, of course, the old woman. In my opinion, this kind of reception as an illustrator, which is very thoughtful cost with the author's text. And a good reception.

Elena Korova (1901 - 1974), is another talented pupil of Nicholas Roerich. There is in her paintings something of a genius teacher. Probably spent his childhood in Harbin and later studies (1914 -1917) in the St. Petersburg school of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts at the Roerich Naumova greatly influenced her future work.
What a rich biography: In 1917, she moved to her parents in Barnaul, where joined the left-most group of artists who are looking for and approval of new forms of art (M. Kurzin, Gulyaev, later - Markova). Taught at the school branch of the Altai-studio art workshops. In the years 1920-1923 she studied at Higher Art. Not finished. Many traveled around the country. Since the mid 20-ies established itself in Central Asia: first in Tashkent, then - in Samarkand. Took active part in the creation of the Samarkand branch of the Union of Artists. In 1946 at the invitation of V. Favorsky moved to Moscow. These are two pictures "Bukharan Jews" 1930. |
