How to sell for $ 12 million stuffed shark: The scandalous truth about contemporary art and auction houses

from the publisher
Donald Thompson - Harvard professor, renowned economist and expert in art. In his book, he recounts all the constituents of the world of contemporary art: dealers, auction houses, galleries, collectors, art brands and emerging artists. Thompson leads the scandalous details and reveals to the reader a shocking truth about the market-art business.

The author, an economist by training, says in his book, as one enterprising dealer in the field of art has tried (and unsuccessfully) to sell dead fish for fabulous prices.
The first problem faced by the seller - the price. Another, but no less important issue - the fact that this product weighs just over two tons. This almost five meter taxidermy "sculpture" Tiger sharks are installed in a giant glass window and has a creative title of "physical impossibility of death in the minds of living."
Was another cause for concern.

In the art world, many doubted that this miracle in general can be called a work of art.
Meanwhile, this question is crucial, because $ 12 million - is more than was ever paid for a work of living artists, with the exception of Jasper Johns, is more than ever, paid for by Gerhard Richter, Robert Rauschenberg and Lucian Freud.

The main conclusion to which the author finds that for the sale of any object, only to be found two (for the element of competition) millionaires that are willing to lay out that kind of money. The author doubts the prospects of investing in art, especially contemporary.

The conclusions that he does not comforting: most inexpensive works can never be resold, even at their original price, to say nothing of the fifteen-foot shark for 12 000 000. (end of quote, emphasis added)
And I went to bivlioteku book to ask ...

Shl: In Britain, "associates" Don Thompson, Art critic Ben Lewis (with his film "The Great (soap) bubble Contemporary Art Society"). and "voice of the people" (as conceived by Vladimir), a British TV presenter Carlson
Judging by the announcement of the book publisher, Thompson thought in mind "in unison, repeating their statements, but with prfessionalnoy (economic point of view," a well-known economist, "they say) .. I can not wait to read and perhaps clarify the last "white spots" this great mystery ...

Look at the circulation: Three tyschi all copies .. In my opinion this is a rarity, even on sale .. And how many in Russia, those who are called art critics?
Rather svego, endure more than one publication, as (I think) is the mystery century! (admittedly hard to say of this or of the past ..)

No, no joke, 3000 copies. - Is almost the maximum for books of this kind.
In the West, the circulation is usually not indicated.
