More than 2 thousand people evacuated from the largest museum of California - the famous Getty art museum in Los Angeles. Visitors and museum staff were withdrawn to a safe place because of the powerful fire raging on the slopes of the hills around the complex.

The fire threatens to spread to the building that houses the world's masterpieces of art, including paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet, wrote RBC.

The museum workers were forced to cut off the ventilation system of the museum, so that the smoke does not hurt priceless works of art.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Getty Center are confident that the pictures were not in danger: they claim that the museum was designed with a solid margin of safety, including in case of fire.

About 350 firefighters battling the fire on the approaches to the museum, seven helicopters "bombarding" burning slopes with water.
