Exhibition of Russian artists in Brie-sur-Marne in 1983
 

In 1983 in a suburb of Paris, an exhibition association "Russian painters and sculptors who live in France." Recently I was asked to scan its catalog. Unfortunately, the catalog of this very poor quality - almost all black and white illustrations, and reproductions of the artist by the name Volovik generally rejected (I'm not kidding, see for yourself!) - The doctor, of course, will say that I did it on purpose, especially if it is the above Volovikov vrodstvennyh relations. In addition, the catalog, which I received, a shortage of a few pages.
Nevertheless, I decided to put it here because it could be helpful in the work of local dealers and gallery owners, so it seems to me, this exhibition was the most complete of all the exhibitions of Russian artists ever get along in France.

Lazarus Volovik (1902 - 1977)

Born in Ukraine in Kiev, where he studied at the School of Fine Arts. In 1920 he emigrated. During the year wandering around Europe, met with the artist Tereshkovich. In 1921, arrived in Paris, settled in the Montparnasse district and enrolled in the Academy of the Grand Shomer and Kolarossi. He was familiar with most of the artists of that time, in particular with Puni, Lprionovym, Goncharova, Alexandra Exter, Blondet, Naidich, with whom they were friends. He went and the Hive, where he met Soutine, Flint, Kikoin, participated in the activities of the Union of Russian Artists. He married at one of the ballerinas of the Russian ballet, Leah Grzhebinoy, which became known teacher of dance.
His first exhibition was organized in Paris in 1924 in the gallery "La Likorn" (Unicorn), together with Soutine and flint. Among its other exhibits upomyanu Exhibition Gallery Serre-Chauveau in 1963-1965-1967-1972 years.

Volovik's figurative direction in the Paris School. His favorite subjects are portrait, still life, cityscape (Paris, Venice) and interiors, bathed in diffused light, in full of light-gray color. These interiors bring together with its tradition intimistskoy Bonnard and Vuillard.

So. But I know who it is. Artist Volovik died a year before we arrived in Paris, but soon after his arrival Roginsky found a job as a janitor at the ballet studio of his widow, Grzhebinoy old woman, who along with her sister kept a ballet studio. Roginsky soon released from his position as cooking and ironing, he did not know how, somewhere in all this, I have told you.
