Neil V. Ushakov (ltsh. Nils Ušakovs ; genus. June 8, 1976, Riga, Latvian SSR, USSR) - Latvian politician. July 1, 2009 elected as the Mayor of Riga. Member of 9 Saeima, chairman of the political association "Center of Concord."
As an economist. In 1999 he became the first student at the University of Latvia, who received a BA in Economics with a degree in analytical economics. He lived and studied in Denmark. In 2002 he received the degree of Cand. oecon (Master of the Latvian system) in the South Danish University of specialization Economy and European Integration. The University of Latvia on Eurofaculty.
Nil Ushakov then went into journalism. Worked as in print media and on television, where he held leadership positions. In 2004, for his contribution to journalism was awarded as "Cicero", established by the Journalists Union of Latvia and the Latvian University.
Nil Ushakov also actively participated in the widely known outside of Latvia, "Baltic Forum", where he studied economic analysis. There he became friends with Janis Urbanowicz.
And the summer of 2005 Neil Ushakov decided to respond to the call of his friend Janis Urbanovich to enter politics and joined the National Harmony Party. In November 2005, was unanimously elected chairman of the political association "Center of Concord."
He is fluent in Latvian, Russian (mother tongue) and English, and at a basic level of knowledge of German, Danish and Swedish.
In his free time enjoys sports - running and cycling.
