Duma has changed the law on cultural property
State Duma approved the third reading amendments to the Law "On Export and Import of Cultural Property." Now, some simplification of procedure of exportation of works of art purchased abroad. MPs, according to RIA Novosti, believe that the new form of law will promote the development of private collectors.
Before the amendments, the law forbade the export from the country of any items that fall under the definition of cultural property (paintings, drawings, statues, stamps, archaeological and paleontological finds, musical instruments, coins, and so on). With the new changes, some things that are more than a hundred years ago, will be exported, provided that they were purchased outside of Russia. The ban on the export of cultural property, named in the security lists and inventories of museums, archives and libraries, is preserved. (Lenta.ru) |
