I've got here a portrait. I call it "Portrait of a Cossack." Author determine not ask - no signature no. Only on a stretcher scratched "№ 9 F. Bol" While this may be the initials of the owner.
Wood, oil, 53h39 And see behind the tree plastered with old canvas, the photo shows. Stretcher old, apparently native.
The question is - who can be shown in the picture? Russian, Ukrainian, Poles, Hungarians? Belonging to a certain caste? Well, in general, look forward to all opinions.

Costume designer, most likely from the Cossack Pugachev Brigade

but I have another question.
Who could analyze the design of the stretcher?

SergeiSK,'ll show the structure and material of the canvas?

Not very similar to the style of Ukrainian Cossacks portrait.
More looks like a modern style.
So the Arbat painted not so long ago.

sergejnowo,
There's always interesting. Personally, I first see that the work performed on the tree oil sales was plastered canvas! And the old canvas, fine, I think that western production, all stained by oxidation of oil. It would be very interesting to separate the canvas from the tree, but I think that will not do that:) The work itself is not nailed to the stretcher, but also glued! Some places the picture of the stretcher wastes, no nails. Most likely the work was restored, but a very long time.

Cracelures there. And in the light areas of his paintings more. Primer milk color, fragile, on the breakaway pieces like oil paint or plaster:)

For me, this is a typical character for Baumgartner, Konstantin Stoilov, Adolf (1850 - 1924).
These guys have it sit in carts /tents, while in front of swift steeds galloping warriors.
