Rozhankovskie - artists
Fyodor Rozhankovsky - the artist known.
Was still his brother - watercolorist Paul Stepanovich Rozhankovsky. Just a few words about it, I about a year ago, read on some forum, wrote the girl, it seems granddaughter or prapravnuchka FS Rozhankovskogo, but this forum, obviously, ordered to live long ... And now at Uppsala came across the work, signed "S. Rozhankovsky." Judging from the modern (not pre-revolutionary) spelling of the work done after the revolution, but about the artist can not find anything. Who knows - share information. |
Allena,
Also read the forum with a history of this girl. I think that after all this is about the artist by the name ROJAN. At work appears on a sign-Serge Rojan. I think this is one and the same person. By the way, in Google Drive in Latin and go on the links. I saw some information on American resources. Although I may be mistaken. I will follow the development of the plot. http://www.artgallerylavrushin.ru/62/58/article209.htm |
I have also two small aquarells signed "P.Roschankowsky".
With Finnish Google, can be found this painting from Helsinki City collections But sadly there is only information about house, not from the artist. http://www.hel2.fi/kaumuseo/kehyksis...haniemi_1.html An here's a scanned Finnish postcart also picture of orginal Roschankowsky painting. http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/FI-827100 Finland Quality Auction Hagelstam has been sold some years ago one of his paintings with 1200euros. In all of these sources his firstname is mentioned to be Paul. I would much apreciate ALL information about him. Years of living, history etc.. It's funny theres no information to be founded about him from Finland, but he has been painting very good quality aquarells from Helsinki sights. |
Donjohnsson, thank you!
Finland - it is at least some reference point for searches. If I find - said sure. |

Great-great-grandfather
well-known illustrator. During his life, illustrated by some 100 children's books. I'll tell you about it, I know. Fedor Stepanovich Rozhankovsky (1891-1970) was born in Mitau (this in Lithuania) in family headmaster. His father died when Theodore was 5 years old. Total children in the family were five. Three sons and two daughters Rozhankovsky. One of the daughters - my great-grandmother. Three brothers (Stephen, Paul and Theodore) were very talented. All drawing, all are artists. Fyodor childhood trying to mimic his elder brothers. His only dream was to learn to paint like them. One of his first works - illyustritsii your favorite book "Robinson Crusoe". Fedor was in Moscow Academy of Fine Arts, but due to World War I finish school and failed, he entered military service. After the war, while engaged in Rozhankovsky writing sketches costumes and sets for operas and theaters in Poland. Then engaged in illustrating books. In 1925 he moved to live in Paris, where he was known by the nickname Rojan. In 1941 he went to Rozhankovsky States (as we know, there was a war). He lost all their property, destroyed his house in Paris. In America, it was waiting for this success. Children's books with his illustrations disagreed with a bang. And for the book "Courting Lyagushenka" he received in 1956 Kadelkotta medal - an award presented each year for the best American children's book with pictures. Then bought a new house in Paris, better than ever. I have his work and his brothers. There will be time - will scan. By the way, Paul, his brother, was a brilliant watercolorist. In his watercolors, I can watch for hours, trying to guess how it was possible to create such :-) http://genina-jena.livejournal.com/6448.html Posted 4 minutes Here's more about him. http://www.artgallerylavrushin.ru/pa...2f3dca5ecdcd54 |

usynin2, katechka, thanks!
And if there is information about Paul and Stepan Rozhankovskih? |
Usynin2, thank you for the history! There is only little information about Roschankowsky family available.
Last week I did read book about Finnish artist Grigor Auer. There was mentioned that Grigor had house next to the lake, and he had many russian painters visiting in summer during their trips to European countries. Paul Roschankowsky was mentioned to be one of them as a name. There was also stated that Paul painted year 1907 in Finland. Mainly in Helsinki area. I have two small water color pictures from this year. Book says " Paul was lost in the world war I, and never heard again ". Here is one more of his painting I found from net. Pictured house is one old famous Villa in Helsinki that is established in 1840's. http://www.systeemi.net/Paul-Roschan...details#galery |
