Shovkunenko Alexei (1884-1974)

Born March 22, 1884 in southern Ukraine, Kherson.
Studied at Odessa Art School (1901-1908, K. Kostandi, G. Ladyzhenskii, D. Krainev) and the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (1909-1917, VA Savinsky).
In 1913-1919 gg. participated in exhibitions of the Society in southern Russian artists.
Member of the Society to them. K. Kostandi (1924-1929).
Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1941).
People's Artist of the USSR (1944).
Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947)
Academician of the Academy of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR.
Board member of the SC of the Ukrainian SSR (1938-1968).
Chairman SH Ukrainian SSR (1949-1951).
From 1926 he taught at the Odessa Polytechnic Institute of Fine Arts (from 1929 - Odessa Art Institute).
In 1935 - 1965 - taught at the Kiev State Art Institute. Professor since 1935, has about 100 students (the so-called school Shovkunenko), among them - NH USSR VG Vesicles, several dozen distinguished and folk artists of Ukraine).
State Prize Laureate of the Ukrainian SSR. Shevchenko (1970).
Awarded the Gold Medal of the International Exhibition in Paris in 1937, Great Silver Medal of the international exhibition in Brussels in 1958
Commander of the Order of Lenin and 3-orders of Red Banner of Labor, has the medal.
In the name of AA Shovkunenko named Kherson Regional Art Museum and the street in Kiev.

Watercolor plus industrial landscape. Extraordinary things. For a series of "industrial" watercolors "Dnieper" the artist was awarded the Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition and a large silver medal at the Brussels.
