Has anyone seen this miracle of artistic technique ?

There are two fundamentally different techniques of painting on glass : the so -called " warm " or " burnt " and therefore " cool ." The first " warm " stained glass painting belongs to the classic medieval stained glass painting . The second comprises kinds of painting , in which the glass is just paint stains without putting it before or after heat treatment. " Cold " stained glass painting can be divided into two main types , depending on which side of the glass layer of paint is applied . This painting " on the glass " (" on the front side of the glass ") and " under glass " (" on the reverse side of the glass " or " behind the glass " ) . These two categories differ fundamentally different approach to the imposition of dyes. If the painting " on the glass " paint applied the classical method , as well as on other substrates (canvas, paper and so on ) , then the painting " under glass " first performed all the details, and only then - the background . They write from front to back , first the brightest light and deep shadows , midtones then . The overlap of local tones exits.

PS I met two such works , where the oil was just " on the glass ."

Thanks for the detailed insight into the technique . Here, the glass base just like cardboard. Is not entirely clear rationale used as a basis for such a brittle material . ( a stained-glass window is different - there is a framework should be transparent ) . Of the artists who wrote the usual oil paints on glass ? I'm trying to figure out who it could be .

And do not try))))))

The work to date.
Students, artists experimented when they were bored canvas and cardboard.
More on the flat stone sea saw peyzazhik from nature - a very good oil, top 80s.
Was also an experiment.
Nothing more.

But in the middle of the 20th century who have experimented on the glass?
or whatever?

Well, in the middle of the 20th century who have experimented on the glass ? or whatever ?

This is not a professional approach . There is no need , fragile , the foundation is too heavy and there is a strong adhesion to the paint layer : by drying painting will stretch film and flake (meaning a long time) .
Just pampering ...

about the time and authorship anyone has an opinion?

Met once the work of Mikhail Sokolov Xenofontovich , it was a small (about 30-40 cm ) still life 30s , by the way the painting was perfectly preserved . In this case, the glass substrate , the result of the plight of the artist. A couple of times it was still , it was modest by the authors , by the way contrary to popular belief , in all cases safety was good, there is an explanation , but this is a separate issue. Your work is most likely the first half of the 20th century , can not be excluded and 30th , painting a very good artist , I'm sure it's well-known artist , who works remind sketches of Kukryniksi or whether , like Boris Yakovlev and by the way , and that that is not a palette knife , like the last one, so it may be because the glass.
