Full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts , member of the Academy of Fine Arts since 1900, professor , head of landscape workshop Higher Art School of the Academy of Arts (since 1911 ) . Master of the picturesque landscape , the transition from Romanticism to Symbolism .
He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1877-1881) at the MK Klodta . He was a member of the "Society of the Wanderers " (from 1886), was a member of its board . He traveled to Western Europe and the Middle East. Made a name for landscapes in which traditional romantic view of nature transformed into visionary clarity of boundaries between reality and full-scale kind of waking dream . The painting " Silence Has Settled " ( 1890), in which the artist captures a pre-storm weather, brought Dubovsky universal recognition.
