Exhibition "Portrait of curiosities," which will be presented unique books from the collection of Library of the State Hermitage Museum, open April 1 in the Winter Palace, said in a statement on the museum site.
Exhibition of its marvels scientific library of the museum is the first time. Exposition, which will include 128 exhibits, will open the book giants, and the book-crumbs.
Visitors will be able to see the most "fat" book from the library of the Hermitage - "Index to a collection of laws and edicts of government" in 1913, the thickness of the book block which is 18.5 centimeters.
Will be presented and the most "long" book of the Hermitage's treasures. This roll size 6,16 m, representing the reproducing a copy of the famous medieval Norman carpet of Bayeux, on the Norman conquest of southern England.
Among the miniature books in sizes from 2,5 to 5,8 centimeters includes liturgical Orthodox and Muslim books XVII-XX centuries, as well as books-baby secular.
The largest section of the exhibition will make sashes, which were used in the finishing of a variety of materials and techniques: beads, lacquer, enamel, watercolor painting on paper sheets notirovannoy manuscripts, embroidery, fabric, bone, pearl, elm, fur.
In addition, one of the sections of the exhibition will provide printed matter with samples of fabrics, lace, tulle, cloth for military uniforms, wood, carpet yarn.
Unique book collection of the Hermitage curators supplemented rarely offered works of small plastic and applied arts XV - XVII centuries, complied in book form: hours, postavets for pens, water bottle, medallions. Among them will be different and household items in the form of small volumes of the book: match-box and keychain, paperweight and a purse, a box for letters and inkwells.

The exhibition, whose work will last until June 7, located in the Rotunda of the Winter Palace.
