Gallery "July 12" is the first official exhibition of Russian avant-garde artist Mary Borisovny Kazan (1914 - 1942).

Her name disappeared almost without a trace on the pages of the Soviet dramatic stories of the 1920s - 1930s. About a hundred paintings canvases, hundreds of pencil drawings, as well as memories of her younger sister - Tatiana Borisovny Kazan - that's basically all that allows you to extract the name from oblivion. Meanwhile, paintings and graphic works of the artist are present in major museum collections, as Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, and invariably cause the interest of collectors.

The exhibition includes about 70 works from private collections in St. Petersburg and Moscow, which give a complete picture of all the stages of the creative development of the master.
At the opening of the presentation of the first monograph on the artist, which was published about 90 works of Kazan, a unique documentary materials and catalog virtually all the surviving paintings and drawings.

Mary of Kazan (1914 - 1942) Biographical Sketch:

She was born in St. Petersburg in the family of intellectuals. Since the end of the school year at the Academy of Fine Arts was set, Kazan began taking painting lessons from Faith Ermolayeva.

In his work, Kazan chosen direction, characterized by emotional, impulsive, color, line and composition nervous. The artist was trained by Ermolayeva to December 1934 - the time when she was arrested as a "counter-revolutionary party groups trying to establish an illegal foreign relations and a leading anti-Soviet propaganda among others."

In March 1935, Maria Kazan released. However, it is still quite a short time engaged in painting, ceasing to write in September 1937. Young artist died in 1942 in the besieged Leningrad.

Recent exhibitions of works of Mary of Kazan held at the Museum of Private Collections "On the banks of the Neva River" (2001), in the Benois Wing of the Russian Museum "Time to collect" (April 2008). Creativity Mary of Kazan has only recently begun to open to the public.
