Write to the PM or russ-arts@mail.ru Born in the village of Novo-Rakitino (Lebedyanskiy county Tambov province) into a peasant family. In 1921 his family moved to Moscow. In 1933 he studied at the Moscow College of Marine Engineering, addicted to making models of sailing ships. Trying to do VHUTEMAS in 1935 was not successful. He worked on the construction of the subway, an animator and a director A.L.Ptushko patternmaker, showed slides of the lectures of professors of the Art Institute named after VI Surikov (hence the nickname "Bob-lamplighter"). In 1941, while working on the defensive trench-work, collecting leaflets scattered Nazi pilots, and found weapons. All that he had then found the house and arrested him. He was found insane and sent for compulsory treatment in Kazan. In 1944, he returned to the capital, odd jobs. During the "thaw" joined the "unofficial" art. Since 1951, the artist actively taught, realized his dream of "home academy." With "school Sitnikov" was linked - as a direct discipleship and creative touch - a number of prominent artists (V.G.Veysberg, Yu.A.Vedernikov, M.D.Sterligova, A. Kharitonov, etc.). In 1975 master emigrated to Austria in 1980 - in the United States. The most valuable part of his collection of icons given to the Museum of Old Russian Art Andrei Rublev. As his own stuff "scattered" almost without a trace - not counting reproductions and separate works in museums (in the New York Museum of Modern Art, Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University in New Jersey, etc.). Vasily Sitnikov died in New York. |
