Vasily Antonovich Perevalskiy (b. 1935).
"Ukrainian folk songs about love." 1966-1967. Woodcuts. Classic of Ukrainian woodcut twentieth century successful attempt to combine the style of expressionist graphics 1910-1920's with the traditions of Ukrainian folk art. 24 sheets of 25 (there is no list, "Oh I take the water at the ford"). Cycle created by the artist during their studies in creative workshops led by the USSR Union MG Deregus as illustrations for gift edition of songs, planned Kiev publishing "Mistetstvo." Stylistics cycle elicited objections Soviet cultural officials who accused the artist of formalism, the publication of the book was delayed and after a lengthy ordeal only allowed in 1971 (Ukrainian narodnі pisni of Cohanim /Arrange. Bіlyakova Yu, M. Kagarlitsky; іl. B. Perevalsky. Mumbai: Mistetstvo, 1971). Despite the fact that the publication of the author's intention was distorted, it was the event of the Ukrainian art of life and, in the words of Ukrainian painter V. Zadorozhniy "handbook" Ukrainian charts. After the reissue of the book in 1986, the artist completed a number of similar publishing orders, and his manner of design collections of folk songs into a national art brand. Reprints are made on paper or celluloid and pasted on cardboard mat. Dimensions 15.7 x 12 (image), 30.5 x 21.1 (mat).
