Full member of the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts (1916). Awarded the title of class artist (1888).
Since 1880, he studied at MUZHVZ (Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture) with legendary VE Makovsky, VD Polenov, IM Pryanishnikov. In 1889, he trained at the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts in BP Villevalde and KB Veniga. In 1989 he was admitted to the partnership of art traveling exhibitions.
In 1903 he became one of the founders and later the head of the Union of Russian Artists (SRS), an organization whose program was characterized by a democratic orientation, interest in the Russian nature, identity, national life. A special place in the work of Sergei Vinogradov served landscape. His most interesting work done in the style of the SRS in which the artist tried to get away from savrasovsko-Levitan landscape tradition, to learn the lessons of Impressionism.
He has participated in exhibitions in Düsseldorf (1904), Paris (1906), Berlin (1907), Munich (1909, 1913), Prague (1914), New York (1924), Riga (1925, 1935, 1936, 1937).
By Sergei Vinogradov presented at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Art Gallery of Tver, in other major museums in Russia.
