I have long intended to raise the subject of one of the most interesting and little-known Russian avant-garde trends - Organic. I will begin with an excerpt from an article by Alla Povelihinoy - the best expert in this field. This article was published in the book, published by the RA about eight years ago.

Theory of world unity and organic trend in Russian Avant-garde of the twentieth century
First quarter of the twentieth century - the time the artistic revolution in Russia. In the 1910's - 1920's, Russian artists are pioneers in the general movement of culture, and Russia - the center of philosophical and religious and artistic ideas. Changes affected the whole culture of the early twentieth century: philosophy, literature, fine arts, music. French art: Impressionism and Cubism, Italian Futurism had meaning for the external shock, but then the Russian art was based on other assumptions that are increasingly found their own tradition of folk art: lubok, signage, embroidery, carvings, toys, and icons . Already in 1910's of the artists of Russia have created schools and directions. In their diversity of Russian art of this period is an extraordinary phenomenon.

By mid-1910's in the artistic vanguard of certain trends have emerged: kubofuturizm, who captured nearly all the artists, Rayonism Mikhail Larionov, Kazimir Malevich's Suprematism, material culture, Vladimir Tatlin, analytical art Pavel Filonov, later in Moscow, constructivism flourished. In the Russian avant-garde movement was still a direction that might qualify as "organic". The key figures in this direction were the poet and artist Elena Guro and musician, composer, artist, art theorist and researcher Michael Matyushin. Organic, natural beginning was the principal reference work of artists Pavel Mansurov, Peter Miturich, Boris, Maria, Xenia, George Ender, Nicholas Greenberg - students Matyushina shop in the former Academy of Fine Arts (1918-1922), and then his disciples Second Edition 1922-1926 years.
A common platform upon which you can combine these artists, is the perception of the world as an organic whole, a world without chaos, with dynamic self-developing system of phenomena, which have specific laws that summed up the diversity of parts into a coherent whole.
Works Matyushina, Ender, Miturich and other subject-irrelevant. Synthesis of vision, the penetration depth of the laws of organic matter in order to capture the structure of its forms, forms of interaction with each other, the logic of their development, the effect of light color and sound environment deform the usual kind of things. In the "organic" plastic is not the whole sum of the parts, and a kind of natural unity of the changed parts. Every form of living "covered with" the general movement of light, color, mass, space. Objects become "irrelevant" only in comparison with the old well-established vision and in any case not abstract. The form occurring on canvas and paper, Matyushin qualified as a "new spatial realism."
Among the artists of the organic direction career Matyushina unusual. He proposed and developed its own system of perception, which differed integrity and was built on faith in the development of human capacity both body and spirit. The system was named "ZOR-Vedas (Vision Vedanie). Advanced watching ".13 It was the basis of Matyushina as a professor at the Art Academy in St. Petersburg (1918-1926), where he led the workshop" Spatial realism "and as the head of the Organic Division (1923-1926) at the State Institute of Artistic Culture, whose director was his friend, Kazimir Malevich.
The entire work of the department of organic crops was aimed at experimental confirmation of observations on nature. This study ways of artistic language: form, color, sound system, a new approach to the perception of reality.
