The exhibition "Turner. 1775-1851" stormed according to the Pushkin Museum director Irina Antonova

The exhibition of British artist William Turner from the collection of the gallery Tate Britain, which concluded its work today at the State Museum Pushkin Fine Arts (GMII), visitors to "take by storm," said at a press conference on Monday, the museum's director, Irina Antonova.

The exhibition "Turner. 1775-1851", in preparation of which, the British and Russian specialists spent a half years, includes some 130 paintings and graphic works, representing all major stages of the master's.

"The last week of the exhibition the museum has undergone because of the storm want to see the works of national pride in Britain", - noted the Antonov.

The museum, though not warming drinks freezing in a long queue of visitors, still went to meet them and extended the time of the museum from six to nine in the evening.

For its part, deputy director of the Pushkin Museum for exhibition work Zinaida Bonami shared statistics: three months of the exhibition saw 200 thousand spectators, mostly young people under 35 years.

"I do not explain the phenomenon of the success of this exhibition. Perhaps it is a huge emotional charge of the Turner painting itself, which many of our visitors want to see even more than once or twice," - continued the Antonov.

According to her, this exhibition marked the beginning of a partnership with Tate Britain: a few years in the Pushkin Museum to open exhibition of Pre-Raphaelites, and in the nearest plans - part of the British Museum in an exhibition dedicated to the art of Historicism.

Indeed, there is something more than simple interest ... And the age of "assault"? That something "mature" people do not like Turner? Or like less:)?

really a strange situation - I was on the day after the opening ... the people were, but it was so little, but at the end of the exhibition suddenly Popper. What again is strange, given that the exhibition only 3 of which are interesting from the standpoint of understanding of his work and his own order, for that it dries the whole Britain. Everything else is looking, searching, searching, and nondescript. Age of visitors is easily explained - well, feel like "mature" people for several hours in this weather to stand in line, and young stock of what? bought something a bit stronger, and stand-leaping ...

We are today on Turner recited a special lecture by the teacher. Summary: in England it truly is revered as a genius. Turner was for its time, just a unique person, sometimes contradictory. Critics were many. And he often openly ridiculed his fellow classics! He first began working in a technology that works in oil look like watercolor. In 15 years the artist has already sold his work, and at 27 became an academician. And the most interesting! Turner's dream was that if after his death, the glory was alive and immortal talent. And the sky Turner looked at all the Pushkin, happy and charming smiles)
