Volovik Lazar /Lazare Volovick (1902, Kremenchug - 1977, Paris)
Painter, theater and cinema. He was born in Kremenchug, Ukraine. He studied at the Kharkov Art School and the Ukrainian Academy of Arts in Kiev. In 1919-1920 he emigrated to Constantinople. From 1921 - in Paris, studied at the Academy Grande Chaumiere. Since 1923 he lived in an art colony "Beehive". He painted portraits, nudes, landscapes, still lifes, scenes of theatrical life. Participated in the stage for multipurpose necessities exhibitions in galleries: La Licorne (1923, 1924), café La Rotonde (1925), Aux Quatre Chemins (1926), D'Alignan (1931). Also in the Russian section of the exhibition "Contemporary French Art" in Moscow (1928). In 1930 worked as a designer of theater. In 1936, held a solo exhibition in New York. During the Second World War, remained in Paris. Since 1946 he worked for the company "Russian Ballet", created by L. and J. Grzhebinymi. Completely left painting from the deteriorating health in 1974. He died in Paris in 1977.
