Printing plates (engraving) 1853-54 GG (Rossika).
 

Good evening!
Offered for sale eight unique printing plate (engraving), by which in 1853-1854, the city was printed etchings for the book Voyage pittoresque en Russie par M. Charles de Saint-Julien, suivi d'un Voyage en Siberie, par M. R. Bourdier. Paris: Belin-Leprieur et Morizot, 1854 (Saint-Julien, Charles. Scenic journey through Russia /Bourdieu, P. Journey to Siberia).
Printing plate size 19h28 cm (size prints on the plate - 12h16 cm), weight of one plate about 950 grams. Material - steel. Condition is very good.
Engraving «ASTRAKHAN» (Astrakhan) is made from the original drawing academics Chernetsov (signature on the plate: Tchernetzoff del). There is reason to assume that the engraving «NIJNI-NOVGOROD» (NIZHNY NOVGOROD), «KAZAN» (Kazan) also made the drawings of the brothers Chernetsov (which may indicate a distinct resemblance to the pictures of Gregory and Nicanor Chernetsov of their "Journey to the Volga" in 1838 g).
Engravings cut: Emile ROUARGUE (1795-1865), James Harfield Kernot (1802-1858), Jean-Jacques Outhwaite (1836-1877).
Since the prints were cut on polished wafers - very difficult to photograph. The surface of the mirror, "attracts" and reflects all nearby objects and colors. Therefore it is impossible to convey the real beauty of the printing plates and filigree work masters of their craft.
