Following the first lines of the famous novel by Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities »(A Tale of Two Cities, 1859), events which occur during the French Revolution, this exhibition makes a leap into the present day to reflect on how modern and ickusstvo aesthetics of the past used to display the future.

The ideals of human rights and freedoms that have been developed in Europe in the Age of Enlightenment in the XVIII century, found its first political expression in the American and French revolutions. By combining ideology and action, they caused a long chain of national uprisings, which today affect the world. But despite good intentions, "human rights" are limited, and at the heart of every revolution is both the worst and best of human thought and action. They reflect on the exhibition theme of utopian dreams of equality, freedom and security, filling our lives today, and comprehends their opposites - the terror, inequality and war. It is these destructive forces, caused by man and nature, make it impossible for the improved survival of mankind.

On the one hand, the "best" and "worst" may be understood as opposites, as part of a rational, materialistic
dialectics of the West, in which being is dependent both on the choice and the circumstances. However, on the other hand, the "best" and "worst" are part of a cyclical movement, in which uncontrolled, at first glance, the forces destroying the most beautiful dreams, the worm destroys the collective lust for personal balance, but even on a bare wasteland punched green shoots of hope. In the "worst case" contains the atonement, and the "best" - this is an illusion, usually hatched seeds of its own
destruction. This approach can be found in many aspects of Eastern thought.

The exhibition will unfold in Kiev Slavonic historical city, which is located at the crossroads of traditional ways of trade and migration between East, West, North and South. Kiev State in the IX century, the Vikings took to the North than it has increased its international importance. At different times of the Huns, Khazars, Mongols, Pechenegs, the Scythians, Tatars, and many other nomadic peoples from the East took place on this earth, and sometimes settled on it. Eurasian diaspora legacy big land shown in several studies of this exhibition, which presents artists from Ukraine and former CIS countries close to the authors from the North, South, West, and especially from the East.

Along with the reflection of history and genealogy of the region, this approach appeals to the recent disruptions in the balance of wealth and power, when the legacy of European Enlightenment is subject to revision. The crisis of socialism and the idea of ​​public space in general, the vicissitudes of the Alliance in the Gulf and Afghanistan, corporate greed and the virtual demise of capitalism, the Jasmine Revolution in North Africa, transparently exposed how the alleged hegemony of the West is fatally compromised its own self-interest. Today, the global poverty reaches record levels, despite the availability of resources to improve the situation.

Robbery environment lasts, and it certainly destroys our future. The ideals of freedom, democracy and human rights are considered an appendage of cynical power - the goods, which, like the humanitarian aid is distributed sparingly, spreading along the way silence and submission. Emerges only scheme: the rich are getting richer, and nobody wants to give up on anything. But amid this mad whirl entirely unclear whether it is possible to find any acceptable alternatives.

Intelligence, intuition and humanity of artists who have created works for the exhibition, are not aimed at addressing these issues - they are, rather, inspired by his example. Critical, sardonic, sometimes humorous and iconoclastic views on the world of these authors, their ability to think and see beyond that from time to time, we ourselves create, their clarity and devotion to the truth of art give us the energy to move forward - in order to witness and appreciate the subtle reasons and consequences of life, which actually is the source of art. And it is a necessary prelude to action.
