Biography and Work

Born on December 25 (January 6) in 1868 in Yelets (now Lipetsk region) in the family of a baker. Early left an orphan. From childhood to earn a living by painting icons in Zadonsk monastery.

He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1882-1889), where, under the leadership of E. Sorokin, IM Pryanishnikov especially Polenov emerged as a realist then studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (1889 - , 1890). Member of the Moscow Association of Artists (since 1893), the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (since 1922).
