Pyotr Konchalovsky was born (9) February 21, 1876 in the city of Kharkov province Slavyansk (now Slavyansk in the Donetsk region of Ukraine). He studied at Kharkov in the third drawing school, after attending evening classes Stroganov School of Industrial Art and studied at the 1st High School.

In 1897-1898 he studied at the Paris Academy of R. Julian, and from 1898 to 1905 - in the Art School of the Arts Academy of St. Petersburg.

Pyotr Konchalovsky was well educated, fluent in French and in general had a strong attraction to Europe. His father-was a famous painter Vasily Surikov, and its influence on the formation Konchalovsky as an artist was apparent. It is with Pyotr Konchalovsky Surikov traveled on the first studies in Spain, after they have worked all over Europe.

In the early period of the artist sought to express the festive colors, typical of Russian folk art, using constructive colors by Paul Cezanne.

After the October Revolution, Peter moved to a more realistic style of painting. Petr Konchalovsky - winner of the Stalin Prize (1943), in 1946 was awarded the title People's Artist of the RSFSR, was awarded several medals and the Order of Red Banner of Labor.

His daughter - Natalia Konchalovsky, writer, poet and translator, wife and mother of Sergei Mikhalkov famous directors Andron Konchalovsky and Nikita Mikhalkov.

He died February 2, 1956 in Moscow.
