Вложений: 5
Hello!
A small introduction.
Purchased the old picture (landscape ) without moldings , took her to an artist friend to clean up ( clean ) , to our surprise found a canvas under another painting , here is this old man.
No inscriptions , oil on canvas , maslo.Razmer 63h47 , 5.Holst was in a terrible state , breakthroughs in several places, the dirt may not have been something to consider.
After a little cosmetic repair the old man 's got such a form. According to an acquaintance of the artist, is a sketch for the painting , about 18-19 century.
Please help me identify who this old man who reads , who can
saw his picture in the other pictures? And why hide it under a different cloth ? Your assumptions !

What we can say now after such a massive intervention?

Molevich,

Toinen, thanks for your assessment, but I'm not interested in the quality of this work and how it interfered with the large scale restoration.
I just asked to help determine who might be reading this old man and not seen a picture of his other works.

Most likely, depicts St.
Jerome (Saint Jerome, 347 - 420), translator of the Bible into Latin.

Unable to load image from the first time.
This inhibits the twitter page, and generally annoying.

Amateur, thank you very much for your answer tomorrow'll find information about it.
I managed only a cursory read on the internet, that image of the Saint.
Jerome was a favorite with Ribera.
According to the latest catalog of his work, he wrote the holy forty-four times.
Thank you again!
