Eugene Vucetic

Eugene Vucetich was born in Ekaterinoslav (now Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) (15) December 28, 1908. He graduated from the Leningrad Academy of Arts (1933), since 1935 has lived and worked in Moscow. Was the leading sculptor of association "Studio of Military Artists Grekov" from 1943.

Brutal-heroic energy of his work is close in spirit to the German plastics of the Third Reich. Heading the large team of sculptors, was the principal author of two best-known Soviet war memorials - "Soviet soldiers who fell in battle against fascism '(in Berlin's Treptow Park, 1946-1949; Stalin Prize 1950, awarded also for the aforementioned high relief), and as an ensemble on Mamaev Hill in Volgograd (1963-1967, the Lenin Prize in 1970), especially grandiose last of them, towering among the hills, bare steppe.

In both cases demonstrated the ability to reach the master of acute expressive silhouette (bronze warrior-liberator girl rescued from a Berlin or a giant concrete Motherland in Volgograd), etched in my memory like a powerful appeal poster.

Among his other works - a monument to Dzerzhinsky in front of the KGB's Lubyanka Square in Moscow (1958 during the August 1991 coup brought down the figure was from a pedestal and now installed in the "Garden Sculpture" at the Central House of Artists) and the figure of "Swords into plowshares "(1957), one of the cast which was presented by the Soviet government as a gift to the UN.
