Russian painter, one of the founders of abstract art
December 16, 1866 - December 13, 1944

Vasily Kandinsky was born (4) December 16, 1866 in Moscow, into a noble family of the merchant. As a child, the boy's family traveled extensively throughout Europe and Russia. When Basil was five years old, they settled in Odessa. Here Kandinsky was the gymnasium, art and music education. But seriously do not draw up to 30 years.

In 1885, the future artist went to Moscow and entered the law faculty of Moscow State University. As a student, made an expedition to Vologda and studied the life and customs of the local population.

After university, Kandinsky began to work in Kushnerevskoy printing. A year later he went to Germany, where he continued his education at a private art studio.

In 1900 Kandinsky entered the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, and a year later created the art association "Phalanx" and the school. Simultaneously, the artist travels to Africa, Europe and Russia, meets with colleagues, participate in exhibitions.

After nearly 10 years, Kandinsky had already produces its own original style of drawing, organizes a group of famous "Blue Rider". It includes such Expressionists as Franz Marc, Alexei Jawlensky, Marianne Verevkina, Paul Klee.

In 1914, Kandinsky returned to Russia and settled in Moscow. During this period he created many of his canvases. After the revolution of 1917 the artist participated in the organization of the Museum of Artistic Culture, became a professor at Moscow University and vice president he had organized as the Russian Academy of Artistic Sciences.

In 1921, Kandinsky left Germany in order to organize the Berlin branch of the Academy. And spent abroad his remaining years. Since the beginning of World War II, the artist took French citizenship.

Wassily Kandinsky died December 13, 1944 in a Paris suburb.
