Michael Beetle (1883-1964)

"Drawing and painting of Michael Beetle."

Unusual original Ukrainian representative of Art Nouveau, an outstanding graphic artist, painter and master of ceramics, studied at the Kiev School of Drawing N. Murashko (his mentors were painters Pimonenko N., G. Dyadchenko, V. Kosyachenko), trained at MUZHVZ, graduated from the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts in 1904 (studio and Yuri S. Vispyanskogo Meggofera).
Michael Beetle in the 1920s created a series of portraits of famous figures of Ukrainian culture and political leaders, was close to I. Franco, M. Kotsyubinsky (repeatedly created portraits of him).
He taught drawing at the Theological Seminary and a girls' school in Chernigov (1905-1917), worked in Kiev (1917-1919). In 1925, Professor Mikhail Ivanovich Zhuk was invited to work at the Odessa Art Institute, where he headed the department until his death ceramics. In 1937, fearing reprisals for communication with the Ukrainian cultural figures, beetle leaves from Odessa, running up to 1939 artistic director Dmitrovsky, and then - Dulevo porcelain factory, decorating glassware completed projects (works of this period are on display). Return to Odessa Beetle continues to work at the Art Institute (after the reorganization of the school). Creativity of Mikhail Ivanovich Zhuk always distinguished innovation, finding new ways in art, active citizenship, he was bored to do mediocre work.
Personal posthumous exhibition held in Moscow Beetle Odessa in 1977 and 2006.
