Interpol Russia returns the ancient medallion


Abroad was attempted sale of a cultural heritage that belongs to Russian museum. It is about an old medallion with a profile of Peter the Great.

The work, dating from the second half of XVIII century, was stolen from the Museum-Estate Ostankino in 1996. For theft was prosecuted, and the medallion on the international wanted list.

As the press service of the National Central Bureau of Interpol, the Interior Ministry, in September, the location of stolen works of art was established. The positive results led monitoring of electronic catalogs of international auction houses. The medallion was put up for auction Austrian auction house "Dorotheum." As a result of the staff of Interpol that lot was withdrawn from the auction, scheduled for October 13. Currently, within the framework of international law together with the Austrian partners, the conditions for returning to the Russian side of the medallion.

Porcelain medallion with a profile of Peter the Great was founded in England 1780-1790-ies. The cost of the medallion according to experts is about 100 thousand dollars.
