The State Hermitage Museum canceled a planned exhibition in December in the city of Takasaki Gunma Prefecture, Japan in view of the city's proximity to nuclear power accident, "Fukushima-1" and the risk of possible contamination, "Interfax" referring to a Japanese TV station NHK.

We are talking about the exhibition "Glass, who admired the Russian imperial court. Russian and European glass from the collection of the Hermitage," which describes the history of Western European and Russian glassmaking. The exhibition features over 300 works from the museum.

According to Japanese media, the Russians have expressed fears the impact of radiation on the exhibits, which, since June 2011, has traveled all of Japan, including Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in Sapporo, Tokyo City Museum of Art and Art Museum Teyen Okayama Prefecture. The exhibits displayed in Tokyo, which is located 230 kilometers from the crash accident.

Takasaki City 20 miles closer to the "Fukushima-1" than Tokyo, and the radiation level is there, the assurances of local authorities, within the normal range.

Representatives of the Hermitage had no immediate comment on Japanese media.
