"Russian Dreams" George Shishkina - the Cathedral of Monaco
 

Two large paintings of George Shishkin from the "Russian Dreams" - diptych: "Farewell" and "Birth" - combining the life cycle, are displayed in the main Cathedral of Monaco.

These pictures on display from May 14, 2011, the day of St. Nicholas, when the cathedral was brought relics of St. Nicholas (cancer in the form of a silver hand) from the monastery , located in Switzerland. The ancient church was once on the site of the cathedral, was dedicated to St. Nicholas .

According to the rector of the cathedral, the artist George was invited to exhibit Shishkin paintings , knowing the spiritual orientation of his work . But they did not know exactly which pictures the artist offers . And when they saw were amazed at their impact. And now they say that without these paintings do not represent the cathedral . Archbishop of Monaco , Bernard Barsy ( third person in the state) has congratulated the artist.

The former in place of the cathedral church of the XIII century was dedicated to St. Nicholas.

Monaco Cathedral was built in 1875 from white stone in the Roman- Byzantine style. The cathedral is located on a rock, a two minute walk from the Palace . Here there are important rituals that accompany the life of the prince of the dynasty of Grimaldi . The Cathedral also serves as a princely family tomb. At the tomb of Princess Grace always - fresh flowers.

June 11, 2011 in honor of the centenary of the consecration of the Cathedral of Monaco , which took place during the reign of Prince Albert I - a famous scientist and explorer , founder of the famous Oceanographic Museum , - a solemn Mass in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Charlene Uittstok Mademoiselle , the Prime Minister the Archbishop and members of the Government of Monaco and other figures . The cathedral was packed. At the same time the entrance to the cathedral was free for all wishing to attend a ceremony .

It is a pity that our clergy have so little taste for modern art , and the old, in general , too.
