Accidentally found by De Vries sculpture valued at $ 13 million

Auction house Christie's auctioned a bronze sculpture of the Netherlands artist Adrian de Vries, "mythic hero, holding a ball," reports Bloomberg. This sculpture was discovered accidentally in 2010 in the territory of a castle in Northern Europe.

Representatives of the auction house, called the sculpture, created in the XVII century, one of the best works of de Vries. According to the agency EFE, "The Mythical Hero" was completed in 1626 (the year of the death of de Vries) and is his last work. Presumably the last 300 years, the sculpture stood at the castle, where she was discovered.

The Mythical Hero "is priced at $ 13 million, but experts suggest that the price of the sculpture could exceed 30 million. Thus, it can achieve a record value in early European sculpture, installed in 2003 at about $ 15 million.

Adrian de Vries was one of the most prominent representatives of European Mannerism second half of XVI - early XVII centuries. Among his most famous works - fountains "Hercules" and "Mercury" in Augsburg and the sculpture of "Mercury and Psyche, housed in the Louvre.
