Dear forum !
Continuing the excavations in the family archives , meeting :) > stumbled upon a picture . Paper on a stretcher , watercolor ( probably ) . Stretcher pasted a newspaper with the text with " Z " characters. How valuable this product with thin . point of view and with such damage ? How to restore ? Maybe someone knows the author ? Advise what to do .

Advise what to do with it.

I am afraid that nothing can be done.
Killed outright.

Probably need to be a humanist and poor return to where you found it .....
:)>

JOKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thing you can do will look good ...
but I'm not sure that this watercolor.

Most likely it is printed.

Tsop 22.04.2011 17:22

Printing??
But she's clearly old, behind papered with newspaper beginning of the century.
Then, too, printed reproductions of such quality?
It seems to me, or watercolor or gouache.
Should I restore?
The issue price of costs and the final result ...
without significance :)>

Well check out , because , watercolor and gouache are reversible , ie diluted with water . Have a look at corner , wipe lightly wet wool , will mark ...
It is hardly possible to restore , except that with strong intervention ... Furthermore , nobody knows who the author and who is represented ... Under such circumstances, it is worth nothing ...

Looked and looked ...

And I can not even understand what it is, what years?

Either 1880, or 1920.

By the look and bearing model - like the 1920, and on clothes - like 1880 ...

Written very masterovito.

But really, is not whether the reproduction?

Тихая Сапа 23.04.2011 09:58

To me, too, more like a fully chipped pastel . Can not be restored . The maximum that can be attributed restorer to pick it cleaned , consolidated and finished ( or rather re- wrote ) it . Then it will then get nice historical reconstruction, which can sell for the old original portrait or simply hang on the wall for the interior styling . Despite the fact that the portrait will be a new , old patina remains .... Although the money will be released as per the original purchase probably ) ) )

Hold a more extensive study and accomplish your goal :)>
