Rachmaninoff wrote the "Vigil" during the First World War. Renowned composer Sergei Rachmaninoff was born April 1, 1873 into a noble family. Rachmaninoff's interest in music showed up in early childhood. At the age of 13 years, Rachmaninoff was presented to Peter Tchaikovsky, who played a major role in the fate of the young musician. Rachmaninoff graduated from the Moscow Conservatory at age 19, and by the time they were already written the first opera "Aleko" (master's thesis) on Pushkin's "Gypsies," the first piano concerto, a number of songs, piano pieces, including a prelude to- C sharp minor, which later became one of the most famous works of Rachmaninoff.

Rachmaninov became famous not only as a composer but also as a pianist and conductor.

After the 1917 revolution, he and his family left Russia. During his life abroad (1918-1943 years) Rachmaninoff created a total of six works, which belong to the heights of the Russian and world music. Permanent residence Rachmaninoff were the USA, where he was buried after a long illness.
