Jury Prize World Press Photo named best picture in 2010 shot Afghan girl Aisha Bibi, whose husband, the insurgent Taliban movement, cut off his nose and ears, according to Associated Press. Its decision to the jury explained that this picture - a vivid image of violence against women.
Photo of Aisha, made by Jodi Bieber, was placed on the cover of one of the August issue of the magazine Time, which caused a lot of conflicting opinions. Managing Editor Richard Stendzhel has explained the move: "This picture opens a window into the reality of the situation (and what could still happen) during the war, which affects us all."
Photo of Aisha also took first place in "Portrait". World Press Photo Award was presented in nine categories, each of which the jury chose the three best single image and the three best series of photographs. Russian photographers among the winners there.

Most awards went to photographers agency Getty Images and Panos - five. Three prizes were awarded to photographers to Reuters, for two awards - photographers Agence France-Presse and Associated Press. In the contest was attended by 5,847 photographers who have submitted 108,059 photos.
