Born into a family doctor. He studied at the Engineering College of Emperor Nicholas I in Kronstadt (1875-1880). In 1880-1894 in the service in the Navy. In 1887-1889 and 1891-1894 on a business trip Naval Ministry had lived in Paris, where he worked under the supervision of AP Bogolyubov, as well as in the studio F. Kormora.

Worked primarily as a landscape, seascape. In 1880 - the first half of 1890 participated in a number of overseas voyages on warships (Monomakh, "" Shooter "), including a circumnavigation on the battleship" Cruiser "(1889-1890). From July 1890 to August 1891 aboard the frigate "Memory of Azov," accompanied by the heir to the Russian throne of Grand Duke Nicholas Alexandrovich in his journey to the East - in Greece, Egypt, India, to Ceylon and Java, Japan, Russian Far East. In 1894, he was appointed artist to the Naval Ministry. In the same year he married the daughter of Pavel Tretyakov Lyubov Pavlovna, after which he lived mainly in Moscow and a dacha in Kurakin. Created images of interiors house Tretyakov. Periodically traveled to Russia (the Volga region, Caucasus, Crimea, Siberia) and in France.

In 1886 participant of exhibitions, has exhibited his work at academic fairs (1886-1894, with interruptions), at the Paris Salon (1888-1899, with interruptions), shows the St. Petersburg Society of Artists (1894-1896), the Society of Russian watercolors (1895 - 1899, with interruptions), the Moscow Society of Lovers of Fine Arts (1897-1900), TPHV (1897-1900). Participated in the World Exhibition in Paris (1889, 1900, in 1900 awarded the bronze medal), the All-Russian industrial and agricultural exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896). Held solo exhibitions in St. Petersburg (1894) and Paris (1896).

In 1902, in St. Petersburg hosted a memorial exhibition of the artist.

Gritsenko works are in many museum collections, among them - the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, Pushkin Museum. Pushkin and others.
