From 40's, in the works of Dali appears religious themes, in particular - the images of angels. Dali considered insufficient to messengers of the Lord to fly and walk, they, in his opinion, should also swim and dive for the accomplishment of its mission. Thus, the artist has developed something between a semblance of human limbs and fins.
Most of the sculptures were created in the artist's house in Port-Ligate (Spain). According to his biographer Robert Desharna (Robert Descharnes), Dali worked with wax only in the summer, on sunny days on the curb of his pool. This has become a kind of ritual: around noon, he set aside the brush and came out of his workshop to the pool. There, for several hours he was engaged in modeling, and then, after dinner, then went back to his canvases. "As a friend of the family, I could be present at work", - recalls Desharn. - "We sat together and talked, while his fingers kneading wax, fashioned a regular figure.
