Intimidation.

I would be translated as a "Pugalka" because

Scarecrow-litereturnoe; Pugalka-vernacular, it all depends on the context.

Altim 10.09.2010 13:20

Friends, do not confuse people :-)
Nastrashka - a state of any act of intimidation.

NATA NOVA 10.09.2010 13:31

This is a colloquialism (local, slang) so I would have translated as slang in order to keep internal logic.

Moreover, this word is used in scientific language, in particular, in criminal law when considering the functions of punishment :-)
Also sorry :-)

agrees with NATA NOVA I do not remember such a Ukrainian word, though not surprised, most recently head and share a lot of new words (and criminal law in the Ukrainian language we have in fact recently come from?) and no it not literary word, well, never know what words we use today in the literature.
