Busse - name of the artist? Look just in case.

I would have considered that it or E. Busse, or someone who had been born. Style and expressiveness of this portrait is similar to the famous portraits of the Jewish community or ghetto, which was almost fashionable to write after Rembrandt and Frans Hals. He wrote the artist, who studied "to the Impressionists."

. Is it possible that the sketch to one of the historical paintings by Polish artist Jan Matejko. Already very fascinating and frightening, like a character in Gogol's "Portrait"

I would have considered that it or E. Busse, or someone who was also born.

Well, I found something of E. Buss ie, Ernst Gotliff Bosse. Do not like - in these papers is something of manners Gainsborough or Reynolds, or their successors in the Age of Romanticism, and "Old Man" - homespun truth of life, it seems, it has become fashionable later, although before the Impressionists? :)

All of our conclusions, unfortunately, far-fetched. What a pity! Portrait remarkable.

In the Scandinavian languages the name Busse /Bosse is a diminutive of the masculine name Bo (in rus. Transcription. = Bu). It is interesting that many of the owners of the name officially used it to old age. For example, former Minister of Finance of Sweden Busse Ringholm.
Painting from the Danish auction, so that we can not exclude that the inscription on the frame and canvas - private landlord. Only ...:(

By the way, the canvas is dated the twentieth century ...

Well, that's nothing said. It seems to be in the 20 century at least restored, and the frame is relatively fresh.

Painting arrived in Kiev, a cursory examination: thin cardboard, pasted on cardboard, not very accurately. Rama is not older than 50 years. Canvas with numerous cuts (wrinkles?) Craquelure evenly across the canvas. The cloth under a layer of varnish (?) On the fresh. I enclose a photo, including in light of the UV lamp. It seems that this is a fragment cut from a larger canvas - it is seen by uneven cutting board as well as most of the canvas. In the lower right corner of the ultraviolet light detected (?) Residues of the signature.

And it seems to me that this portrait - the independent thing. The whole composition was talking about it. Maybe a little bit cut down on the edges.

As for the thorough excision (hm), then I knew these people, who found in a closet canvas, pasted it with paste on what a comer of cardboard, then cut and another not very sharp knife to insert in the existing frame without hesitation that ought to do the opposite.
A portrait is really wonderful. Signed oil performed? And then some
strange feeling ...

You know, in ordinary light signature does not show only in the UV. It is difficult to say what made a signature and a signature. In the UV, except for reading the three letters "c, e," or "c, l, b" traces of others, but very difficult to distinguish.
PS What you have this strange feeling?
