Centre for Contemporary Culture Garage," is Russia's first solo exhibition of one of the most important contemporary artists - James Turrell. Retrospective of the American artist includes 40 years of his work, including his early experiments with light projections of 1960 and presented here for the first time the special installation "Ganzfild (Purusha) and the Camera of perception (light drop rule)".
< br /> Turrell is engaged in the creation of art objects from the light and space in 1960. For almost fifty years he has developed an extensive collection of works, which includes sculptures, holograms, installation and architectural objects. His thoughtful work is a catalyst for the viewer in his knowledge of the phenomenon of perception. Capturing and emphasizing the quality of light, fleeting and intractable substances, Turrell creates works that need to feel, not just to see.

In the center of the Garage will be presented 15 light works, including the boundless and has no image of landscape "Purusha" (2011). These latest products allow the viewer to be in the landscape, completely made of light absorbed in a clean sunbath, which generates a feeling of total loss of the space. Turrell describes this effect as a property of "feeling the eyes," as not only aesthetic but also a spiritual experience.

The interaction of external and internal world is explored in a separate, every detail thought out work "Falling light domination, where the viewer for 8-12 minutes, immersed in the visual and acoustic space with alternating streams of light that makes a connection between the light inside and outside, the light that is perceived by the eye, and what remains outside view, as in a dream.

In addition to the exhibition will feature works from the series "Construction division of space," Spatial structure of the surface "and" Locked ", and seven reflect and transmit light holograms.

also be demonstrated Several models of "autonomous entities", which is a separate cabin with interior installations "Ganzfild" or "sky space" and a central hole for the contemplation of the sky. Talking about these models, the author explains that they are only reservoirs with light, and art is in the sensations the viewer. These models and work - a point concentration of creative effort Turrell and the continuation of its most ambitious project to date - the transformation crater of an extinct volcano Arizona Roden. The crater is a monumental natural observatory with several distinctive lighting installations, which often appear in the artist models "autonomous entities".
