The Royal Opera house in Stockholm

Theatre is the national Opera and ballet stage of the country. It is the largest Opera house in Sweden.

the history of the theater:

In 1773 king Gustav III created the country"s first Opera company, tired of foreign artists. Her first performance" Фетида and Peleus" with Carl Stenborg and Elisabeth Olin, was given in January of the same year.

And in 1775 he was hired by architect Carl Frederick Belcrant, that he built the Opera house right in the centre of the city. He was given almost unlimited budget, because the king did not want the Opera house in Sweden than-либо inferior to similar buildings in Europe.

Gustav III Himself was a connoisseur of art, a true collector simply could not live without music. In 1782 the construction of the Opera was completed, and the opening day of the Royal Opera troupe gave their first concert.

Gustav III loved the Opera, masquerades, carnivals. Unfortunately, in this theater of the king and was mortally wounded. During one of the masquerades, the killer crept up to him, closing the face mask. This case formed the basis of the Opera" Бал-маскарад" written by Verdi.

Gustav II Adolf had earned the respect not only for military achievements, but for the love of Sweden. It was during his reign the country was built in 14 new cities.
