ARTIST MICHELE CASCELLA (1892-1989)

Michele Cascella (1892-1989) – an Italian artist famous for watercolours and oil paintings. But he was also involved in ceramics, lithography and textiles. From 1924 to 1942 he regularly exhibited at the Venice Biennale, and his works are in major museums in Italy and also in the Victoria and albert Museum in London and the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris.
Michele"s First teacher was his father Basilio, engaged in painting, engraving, lithography, ceramics and illustration in Pescara, where the city Council had allocated him a plot of land for the construction of the art Studio in which Basilio could organize the production of color lithography.

My first painting by Michele Cascella sold in 1908, when he was 16 years old and privately. And the following year held his first exhibition in Paris.
In 1915, at the beginning of the First world war, Cascella was sent to the front in the Trentino, where he continued his studies in painting. His commander
gave him a task to do front-line sketches. Some of these scenes of military life today preserved in the Museum of the Risorgimento in Milan.
Since 1969, the artist spent most of his time in the countryside of Colle di Val d'Elsa (province of Siena) with his second wife, Isabel Lane Cascella. He has written many Tuscan countryside during this period. The artist died at the age of 97 in Milan and was buried
in Orton.
