Artist Apollinaris Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1856-1933)
Apollinaris Mikhailovich Vasnetsov — the great Russian painter, master of historical genre painting. Born on July 25 (August 6), 1856 in the village of Ryabovo near Vyatka (now Kirov oblast). It should be noted that Apollinary Vasnetsov is the younger brother of another great artist Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1848-1926).
Apollinary Vasnetsov had a great talent and abilities for painting. In this he was not inferior to his famous brother, and yet we have to admit, became less well known. Interestingly, Apollinary Vasnetsov did not receive a formal artistic education, however, created many of the recognized masterpieces of painting. His first teacher was Polish artist Michal Elvira Andriolli (1836-1893), who was exiled to Vyatka.
1872 Apollinaris Mikhailovich went to St. Petersburg, where at that time lived with his brother Victor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov. Here he took lessons from his brother, as well as such artists as V. D. Polenov, I. E. Repin, M. M. Antokolsky, V. M. Maksimov. The lessons are so talented painters have not passed for him in vain and he was able to create many wonderful paintings, which were highly appreciated during his lifetime.
Since 1883 the artist"s paintings participated in shows of the Association of traveling art exhibitions. Apollinary Vasnetsov became an academician of St. Petersburg Academy of arts. He was one of the organizers of the Union of Russian artists, and was head of the landscape class at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture.
