BELORUSSIAN AND WORLD PAINTING EXHIBITION

Belarus, Minsk. "Post-covid art 2021"

https://www.facebook.com/groups/641516269321719/ "The subtleties of art"

A new century has come, and with it a new art.
It is born with the present day.
Actually, it did not appear out of nothing...
It was in the last century, and earlier...
It receded into the background, was rejected and overlapped by slogans of denial and revolutionary negativism... (Although what was perceived as revolutionary and shocking in the 20th century, today does not shock anyone, has become boring and generally accepted, with a strong smell of naphthalene).
Today returns the reality from which the 20th century was "abstracted away"...
Behind formal and abstract heaps, we again begin to see nature and, forgotten by art, a concrete person...
A person not alone and abstracted from the world, but deeply connected with it...
And in this regard he is eternal, harmonious and beautiful...

THE OPEN WORLD

Post covid art»

OPEN WORLD
(Art after the pandemic)

Virtual International Exhibition of Painting - 2021

Artel - Association of Artists invites
https://www.facebook.com/groups/641516269321719/ Subtleties of art – Тонкости искусства

Now, in 2020, the world, man, artist and society suddenly found themselves locked up, separated by numerous borders due to quarantine.
Together with broken ties, the economy was suffered.
The world has become poorer and may be it not recovered very soon.
Even worse, isolation affects a person’s mental state, his soul.
But now, obstacles are falling, doors are opening, nature and the world are blinding us with their radiance...
Again we can be friends and quarrel with each other, share troubles and joys, love and be loved, sympathize and empathize with each other.
And finally, meet again at the opening days of exhibitions...

Gregory Nesterov 06.20.2020

This exhibition pursues cultural and educational non-commercial goals

PS - On the site https://www.facebook.com/groups/641516269321719/ "Тонкости искусства" - "Subtleties of art" (Post covid art) - I made an attempt to simulate a future exhibition, expanding the limits of "Artel" in the virtual space to international level.
Here it is necessary to clarify that "Artel" was built not as a meeting of like-minded people, but on the principle of complementarily, which presupposes the presence of its own, sincere, not borrowed, not false voice. Each author is looking for his own intonation, his own way. These paths, merging together, create a wide road along which the majority will go in the future.
The catharsis we have experienced now is, apparently, a line after which life according to the usual patterns will be left far behind...
But for us this Rubicon was crossed back in 2004, from the moment the Artel was founded.
At that time the canons, schemes and principles which dominated in art were developed more than a hundred years ago, at the very beginning of the 20th century.
The "modernist" revolution was directed not only against the canons of the 19th century, but also against the entire previous culture. And so as the 19th century was sensual in nature and relied on the concepts of harmony and beauty, for the "new" art had no choice but to refuse, "abstract" from them. Thus, the art of the 20th century acquired a dry, rational, conceptual and abstract character in general.
But one cannot live in a conceptual world completely abstracted from feeling and reality.
It is impossible to live in a world abstracted from love, beauty and harmony, justice and morality, where people have turned into abstract soulless symbols, limited not only by physical boundaries, but also by losing sympathy, compassion and interest in each other.
The stylistics of art of the 20th century, which before fought against the canons of the past, has itself become an ossified new canon, a formal cliché that covers up a changed reality.
The century, which fought against the culture of the past, itself became a museum model, a historical fact of world culture, from which future times will alternately choose what they find close and interesting.
Today, at that time when take place the "change of canons", the artist finds himself in a difficult but intriguing position, when new art, by method of trial and error, step by step, moves forward in search of "its own face".
Time does not repeat itself, it is impossible to return to the thrown by us 19th century, as, indeed, to any other; but some lessons can be learned.
And if the 20th century was a time of "perestroika", focused on the "future", and this future has come, then maybe it's time to get used to this future?
Maybe it's time to start living and enjoy life?
To appreciate the beauty of nature and man?
See the harmony and unity of man, humanity and space?

The first world Belarusian exhibition of painting
became possible thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, which does not recognize borders ... This allows us to go beyond, not only the place of our residence, but also beyond the time frame allotted to us by our personal life.
The exhibition is held on behalf of the "Artel" association, which is a part of the Union of Artists of Belarus.
Today we are limited by virtual frames, but who knows, maybe over time it will be embodied in living life ...

Art devoid of connections dies. Moreover, without them it cannot even arise. Through space and time, art connects us into a single whole, without which a quality life of humanity is impossible ...

The picture that appears before our eyes does not close the world, but reveals, comments and complements it. Each new image is a revelation, a new paint and a new facet of the world that naturally arises in its place in space and time.

The time is coming for a long new revaluation of all values, and with it of the principles and canons of art.
And if for the art of the 20th century a revolution was characteristic, a rejection from the previous culture, an abstraction from reality and a departure from it into a dry rational scheme, then a new turn awaiting society will require a rejection from this “rejection”, negativity and schematism, from cynical amorality and irresponsibility, from heartlessness and formalism...
It is waiting for us a turn towards positive values and humanity which were cast off by the 20th century...
It is waiting for us a turn to seriousness; feeling and sympathy...

Nowadays, optimism and belief in positive values are considered revolutionary and at the same time bad form in art.
The search for harmony and beauty, skill and perfection is revolutionary.
Revolutionary and at the same time forbidden is high love in all its manifestations in art (it is allowed only in an ironic way, in "kitsch" and banter).
The search for truth and justice, kindness and humanity is revolutionary.
Revolutionary nobility and not venality, sincerity, simplicity and honesty in art.
Today, without waiting for the artists, these slogans were put forward by the street.

Covid has exacerbated and revealed many previously hidden problems and contradictions in our life.
Turning to the art of today and yesterday, we try to find the key to solving the problems that await us in the future.
Art allows us to relax from the sometimes unbearable burden of life, to infuse new energy and strength, to give faith in the possibility of improving our life ...

The neo-Victorian era is coming.
We are tired of the cynicism, callousness and formalism of our life.
The concepts of the necessity of honor and dignity are gradually returning to society ...
We have need for sincerity and truth ...
We have lack of culture, nobility and justice ...

The exposition of the exhibition, as well as the creation of a painting, is an individual and intuitive process.
Each painting is the result of non-verbal mental activity, a bundle of feelings and emotions, a kind of result not only of the day, but sometimes of the artist's life.
The place of the picture in the general row is not accidental, it is determined by public sentiments.
A number of paintings, as well as in a piece of music, entering into complex relationships with each other, create a general mood designed to influence the viewer ...

Belarusian choice.

For a year now, since June 2020, I have been hosting a worldwide virtual painting exhibition.
In doing so, I rely on more than 40 years of experience working on a book on the history of world culture "History Hours. Rhythms of World Culture", published in Canada in 2016.
The further, the more I am convinced in practice that now there is a fundamental change in human priorities and the style of social relations.
A long period of denial and negativism is ending ...
Today, my experience as an artist and cultural scientist shows that hatred, anger and denial are unproductive and self-destructive ...
Today, no matter how bitter and difficult trials we face in reality, only faith in the possibility of a better life and faith in the best human qualities and solidarity can save us ...
Today destruction, formalism, cynicism, heartlessness and cruelty cannot be justified by anything, they have completely discredited themselves ...
Today, only an orientation towards the best of us, towards honesty, decency, humanity can be salutary ...
Only culture can save us ...
